Synergy Yard Management
How It Works
Communications Tools to Increase Yard Effectiveness
A dispatcher, using the Office Application, assigns a trailer move to a hostler
(yard tractor) and sends the job to his cab-mounted MDT (mobile data terminal) via
one of a variety of available wireless communication channels. During the creation
of this job, the dispatcher has “dashboard” displays on his screen showing empty
trailer availability by section, work assigned to each hostler, and current trailer
counts by yard section.
The hostler jockey receives the job on the Work to Do screen and performs the task,
noting any exceptions. These actions are reported back to the Office Application
via wireless. All activities are recorded for historical reporting and efficiency
measurements.
While these activities are taking place, all trailer entries and exits are being
recorded into the system, either manually by the guard, by the drivers themselves
using the Gate Kiosk, or automatically by an RFID reader/tag system. Owners of foreign
trailers are quickly notified by email to pick up their equipment when it’s empty.
As part of the install, a graphic yard map of your facility is created, and then,
individual maps of yard sections are created with numbered spaces. Multiple yard
locations can be administered from one instance of Synergy Yard Management as well.
Simple and elegant, it will transform the operation of your yard.
