How It Works
Bins Are Barcoded
ScrapRunner provides bar code labels with industrial grade adhesive that are place
on each bin in your operation.
Barcode is Scanned
Once the bar code is place on the bin, it is scanned with one of our rugged, GPS-enabled
handheld computers. The handheld records the GPS-location of the scan so that it
can be found at a later point. Anytime the bin is picked up or dropped off, the
bar code label is scanned and the driver associates the scan with the action taken.
The handheld computers operate on AT&T’s 3G network so they are in constant contact
with the ScrapRunner system and since the handheld is on throughout the day, it
is sampling its location – so you’ll know where all your trucks are.
Jobs Are Scheduled
At this point, the inventory of bins is built. Using the Dispatch Desktop, dispatchers
can view where all the bins and trucks are at any time and begin to schedule jobs
– on a daily basis or longer. Jobs are dispatched wirelessly to driver handhelds
as soon as they are commited, so jobs can be changed throughout the day.
Job Information Is Sent to Accounting and Scale
ScrapRunner integrates with industry-leading accounting and scale systems – job
data is sent to those systems as needed reducing the need for drivers to carry around
paper and drastically reducing processing time.
Customers can watch it all (coming soon)
Through ScrapRunner’s web interface, you can integrate package-style tracking
onto your web site. You customers can request pick up and delivery of bins, or otherwise
track the movement of trucks and bins for their jobs.
Yard Supervisors can watch it, too (coming soon)
ScrapRunner provides a dashboard that can be put on Blackberry, Windows-Mobile and
Apple iPhone devices that shows inbound containers along with their current location
and ETA enabling yard supervisors to properly plan for inbound assets and reduce
backup of trucks in the yard thereby improving process flow.

“Any operation with more than a few trucks and containers would do themselves a
great service to look into this system.”
